Brian Goettl Considering Run For AG

Saying Kentucky needs a non-partisan Attorney General, Jessamine County Attorney Brian Goettl tonight announced his interest in running for the office next year.

"The Attorney General's office needs someone who can serve in a non-partisan manner," Goettl said. "We haven't had that in Kentucky and that is why I am looking at the race."

Goettl was elected last month to his second term as County Attorney in Jessamine, a county with over 2500 more registered Democrats than Republicans. He didn't draw an opponent for his re-election bid in this year's race.

"I couldn't be effective in my job if I let party labels get in the way. That no one ran against me this time indicates I have been effective at that."

"The Attorney General is more than just a prosecutor. You represent Kentucky in a number of ways like civil matters and providing legal opinions. My record shows I can do that effectively."

Oh my. Brian is showing his extreme ambition without first announcing on his web-site?

When are we going to be able to trust KYProgress and ConservativeEdge to tell the truth about their motives?

Goettl might also consider looking at the KY penal code. He has shown in his first four years as County Attorney that he does not know the difference between felonies and misdeameanors.

Afraid all is for not.

Stumbo will be unbeatable for Attorney General.

Stumbo has done what he was elected to do, go after corruption in state government.

Unfortunately, the corruption is perceived to be Gov Ernie Fletcher.

I welcome all GOP candidates, however Goettl will lose in the primary. His postings will not be helpful to him. But take a shot Brian, go for it.

This is the office that I really hope(d) Steve Pence would run for. But I think Brian will be a much better AG than Scumbo and would not use the office for partisan political purposes the way Scumbo has.

Agree with Anon 1:40 & Anon 8:14.

Brian needs to bone up on Kentucky Criminal Law.

While we may hate Stumbo, he has done what most AGs have done, investigate the Governor. Unfortunately, Stumbo's investigation landed some big fish with small bait.

Stumbo is going to stay where he is as most KY AG's never make it to the Governor's mansion.

Brian needs to stay home or else watch some unknown Republican from Louisville thump him in the primary.

When I saw him speak in Richmond, KY about social security reform, I knew he would eventually run.

His speech was tailored for it.

Stumbo is very beatable if th blogosphere can force a discussion abut his flawed character and corruption and using the state office of AG for political purposes!

Brian Goettl would be a refreshing change in that office. I think he would operate with less political motivation and more good ideas.

I appreciate all the comments, good and bad. I will be spending the next few weeks listening carefully. And I'd like to hear what anyone has to say, warts and all.

Tim Coleman has my support for AG. He is the Commonwealth Attorney for Ohio, Butler, Edmonson and Hancock Counties. Tim and his wife are active in the GOP and he would be a young, new face for this key state office. He was just re-elected to his present post and was the only candidate this time around.

We now may also have Rep. Stan Lee, a first class conservative from Lexington, in the race for AG. It appears that the GOP may have three to five running for AG. The Democrat field for governor must be giving new life to GOP candidates. You have to have a strong person running for governor in order for the candidate down the ticket to have a chance. My guess another GOP governor's candidate is still in the works.

I wouldn't read anything into the governor's race because of a flurry of interest in AG.

This is solely related to dislike of Stumbo and what he has done to the Republican Party and our Republican governor.

Stumbo must be defeated next year at ALL costs!!!!

Wow, Stan Lee! Now there is a quality individual. I would hate to lose hm as a Rep, but what a step up for that office that would be.

Brian Goettl would easily be the worst AG in history. Please take a look at some of the things he's posted on his blogs - they're outrageous.
