On a personal note...

I am suspending publishing of the Kentucky Progress blog immediately to take a position as a consultant with the Rand Paul for U.S. Senate Exploratory Committee.

More about that soon.

This site has been both very hard work and a lot of fun. I expect to return to it at the conclusion of this new project. Meanwhile, the site with its existing posts will remain up as will my contact information at the top of the page.

I've met and worked with a lot of fantastic people during the 4 1/2 years on Kentucky Progress who I probably would not have gotten to know otherwise. I'll always be grateful for that.

Hope to see you soon!

David

David -- as both a fellow political blogger (albeit of a sometimes-different persuasion) and as a friend, Let me be the first to say Congratulations!

Working a campaign can be exhilarating, scary, fun, boring, frustrating -- and if you're lucky, very rewarding. No matter how the race turns out, my hope for you is that it is ultimately a rewarding experience.

And keep a journal -- you never know, you might get a book out of it, but at least you'll have a way to share the experience with your family and friends.

Good luck!

That's great news David. Glad to hear it. I'll miss KY Progress but Rand's campaign is more important at the moment. Keep us updated!!!!!

Good luck. While Rand Paul has a pretty good set of core values, I don't see him as electable.

I hope you prove me wrong.

Does this mean that Dr. Paul is in the race for U.S. Senator even if Sen. Bunning runs? If Bunning is in the race, I would have liked to see Dr. Paul in the race for State Senator from the Warren County area. The state senate candidate would need at least $300,000 for the campaign and that would be no problem for Dr. Paul. My guess is that Dr. Paul's strongest base is in south central Kentucky where he lives, but that is just a guess.

David, I appreciate your contributions, but I hate to see you throw away your reputation and credibility in this manner. Rand Paul is NOT the answer Kentucky needs in the Senate. Who that person is, I do not know, but I certainly know that the answer does not come from the current pool of announced or potential candidates. Paul is too fringe. Bunning doesn't know the meaning of the term loyalty. Grayson's too liberal. Bailey's a political unknown. Myself, I'd love to see Hal Rogers or Geoff Davis run for Senate and the other run for governor, or maybe get Ron Lewis to come out of retirement to run. Ed Whitfield, even.

I think you make a greater contribution to Kentucky politics by running this blog instead of attaching yourself to Paul's candidacy. But that's just my opinion.

It's your life and you have to make a living somehow, but .... I'm not a Paul fan at this stage of the game and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I personally think Rand Paul would be the only candidate David could support and keep his conservative credibility and reputation.

As for Jim Bunning not being "loyal". That's could just about sum up the problem most people have with politics. How about being loyal to your constituents or the constitution and not a political party.

Excellent point 2:47, but the point of 12:43 was that Bunning was not loyal to our former GOP governor, who of course did not deserve our loyalty when he could or would not stand up and fight for himself.

Bunning has always be more true to his constituents, the Constitution and his own principles than to his party and its members. That is as it should be.

I've only been following Kentucky Progress for a couple of weeks, but I've gained so much information and helpful opinions in that time that I will be sad to see you go.

However, I too want to throw my energy into Rand Paul's campaign, and i agree with matthiasj that Rand's campaign is more important right now. I wish you the best.

My only suggestion is that if you ever need volunteers for the campaign or help in any way, you should post a call here on the blog.

Take another big big breath of the crack pipe you have been sucking cause it is not going away. You have beat a lot of us down even killed some of us,,, but we are still here and we will not go away. Thank You to those who stood up for what is right. For those who didn't, shame on you, (your name here)

Thanks David for all the intelligent insight and the eye you have kept on the corrupt ones who "lead" us. Someone needs to be telling these truths and you bravely carried the torch on several issues, and took a lot of flak in the process. For that, we thank you.

Much luck working for the Rand Paul campaign. While naysayers and doubters will say Rand Paul is "unelectable", we will be asking those we know to think about how much better our leadership would be if we finally moved away from electing the "electable" and moved into electing the uncorrupted, moral men and women who stand up for our God-endowed Liberty backed up by our Constitution.

One problem I have however, is if Rand runs against Bunning. Jim Bunning is one of the most conservative voting people we have in the Senate and he gets attacked mercilously for it. If another strong conservative runs against Bunning, it may split the vote and allow some liberal from the D side to slip in. That we cannot allow.

Amen 2:47 and 4:40! Loyalty to parties is killing us. We need loyalty to our Constitution and the people that Constitution protects, period!

I am having withdraws here David. Do something! At the very least how about a weekly comment on what you know. Come-on man I got to have it, cold turkey sucks! Please.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate that. Not publishing Kentucky Progress every day has been very difficult for me. But if my new project works out at all like I think it will, when I return I will be able to do much more. Meanwhile, I'm on Facebook and Twitter every day. If you aren't, you should be. And if you are, look me up. Or call any time. My number remains at the top of the screen.

Best of luck David. You'll be missed. This site was a mainstay of the KY political blogosphere and taught us a lot, both about the issues and about this medium.

You mean like those strongly associated with the 9/11 truth movement? Moral, uncorrupted? His repeated appearances on Alex Jones indicate he's unworthy of being elected, whether "electable" or not. It's disappointing Kentucky Progress would associate with such a thing by extension by associating with the Pauls.

If we only did media interviews with people who passed a litmus test, there would be no such thing as a press conference.
