"A country of arbitrary rules"

Potential U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Rand Paul said current federal policies run the risk of doing significant damage to American society:

Speaking to the Scott County Young Republicans, Dr. Paul compared the crisis in our current government to that of ancient Rome past its prime and discussed the risks of the Federal Reserve inflating the currency.

David how many were in attendance?

Did the pompouus Sen Damon Thayer (RINO) have the nerve to show up by chance?

There were about fifty people there. Damon wasn't one of them.

I'm not able to articulate why if someone acknowledges that current federal policies have put us on a self-destruct course, why then would that person want to join one of the parties that have put us in this precarious position in the first place?

True freedom begins with the fortitude of standing against the status quo, not becoming a part of it.

I agree w/ 9:51 -- Rand needs to run as an independent.

The comments about arbitrary law are very relevant and insightful. The system is breaking down (or being broken down intentionally). The laws, including our Constitution, ensured that individuals were empowered and free markets would prevail. The federal government would be small and would not intervene. That's the opposite of what we're seeing today, where Big Government is empowered and socialism is our new economic model. It's all flying apart. At the risk of sounding extreme... the end is near. We are approaching an inflection point. We have to decide if we'll go along with the global currency and governance that's being introduced, or will we as a nation wake up and realize that we need to return to what worked - individual liberty, free markets and small government?

What exactly did Dr. Paul have to say were the "arbitrary rules"??

Republicans and a lot of conservatives are now very vague in saying what should be done.

No one has the courage to state that many of bureaucrcies need to be dismantled. Even KP fails to specify the need to abolish the EEOC, EPA, the KY Dept of Education, the Federal Dept of Education etc.

It is time to work for getting rid of things people should be providing on their own.

I'm the anonymous from 9:51,

To 1:11 - That's not even the tip of the iceberg for what needs to be abolished from our govt. We have to get back to having local govt having the most impact on our daily lives (local officials are much easier to meet nose to nose if they get out of hand).

We have to make KY the example to follow by trimming away unnecessary govt to lower it's cost to avoid budget shortfalls and the need for federal assistance.

If all goes well you will hear someone taking a stand against the status quo and demanding the return to the proper power structure as defined within the US Constitution by eliminating any and all departments at appropriate levels of govt that are contrary to our founding documents!

It seems that the good Doctor Paul knows nothing about bankruptcy law.

Federal Bankruptcy protection allows companies and individuals to get out of contracts often without penalty.

Bankruptcy was one of those "arbitrary" rules imposed upon the nation by our founding fathers.

Bankruptcy laws state that bond holders have prior claim over equity holders. Obama arbitrarily ignored that in order to seize control of Chrysler.

If ever a dead body spun in its grave, there can be no doubt those of the Founding Fathers were set to spinning over that one.

Actually, Happy Chandler is probably spinning over the way his grandson turned out. No way would Happy have ever supported a bill like "Cap & Tax" that devastates one of Kentucky's key economic engines.

Trey Grayson, former Democrat and Clinton-appointee won't do very well in this primary.

I appreciate what you are trying to do, Republican, but the "former Democrat" stuff is not the way to beat Trey Grayson.

The candidate who gets more supporters to the polls in May of 2010 will win the primary. As a Republican, that candidate will need his primary opponent's supporters to win in the fall. Better keep the message positive.
